History of The Nigerian Society of Engineer

A Mission and Journey designed and implemented collaboratively

The Nigerian Society of Engineers is the umbrella organization for the Engineering Profession in Nigeria. The Society looks after the professional needs of members through well structured programmes and regular interactions among the different cadre of membership, enhancing high professional standard and ethical practices.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers was originally founded by a group of young Nigerian graduates and students on the 16th February, 1958 and inaugurated at the Nigerian House in London. It was later registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, Nigeria, as a company Limited by guarantee. The Society, since inception, has distinguished itself through progressive and imaginative programmes to become the avenue for the professional development of its members as well as technological development of the country.

Glasgow Branch of the NSE

The idea to form the Glasgow Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers was initiated by Engr. Dr Oluseun Adediran, PhD, MBA, CEng, CMarEng, MNSE in the year 2017 and with joint efforts of other distinguished engineers (Engr. Charles Okafor , Engr. Mohammed Baba Sheu and Engr. Dr Emmanuel Salifu) who worked hard to form the Glasgow Branch.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers Glasgow is a diaspora branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) , the umbrella organisation for the Engineering Profession in Nigeria. The Society looks after the professional needs of members in Scotland through well structured programs and regular interactions among the different cadre of membership, enhancing high professional standard and ethical practices.

The NSE Glasgow branch was first created in 2017 out of the need to have a platform in Scotland that could enable Nigerian Engineers residing in Scotland to contribute towards the development of the Engineering profession in Nigeria. The establishment of the Branch was approved by the NSE Council in September 2020, recognizing it as the 81st branch of the NSE.

The NSE Glasgow Branch has been executing duties and obligations of Branches of the Society as enshrined in Article 17 (2) of the Memorandum and Articles of Association (Revised 2019). The NSE Glasgow branch is now the largest NSE branch in the diaspora and continues to promote the development of Nigerian Engineers both in the diaspora and back in Nigeria.
